FADING PUPPY SUPPORT
What is a fading puppy? Often defined as an apparently normal newborn which fails to thrive and dies in the first two weeks of life. Also may include puppies who fail to gain weight at the same rate as siblings, puppies with decreased activity or inability or refusal to suckle, or exhibiting a high pitched cry. May progress to lethargy, loss of tone, death.
According to Dr. Susan Whittakerhill, 9.23 to 26% of all whelps suffer from neonatal death. 50% of those deaths are attributed to fading puppy syndrome. Little research has been done on this subject, but many breeders instantly recognize the typical symptoms of this heartbreaking condition and struggle to save these babies.
An early version of this remedy was developed by Richard Croft many decades ago. After trying many combinations, a recipe was developed that has been used in Europe and the United States. It has been used successfully on tens of thousands of puppies, kittens, queens and dams.
Improvement of this formula has been possible due to the advancements in holistic and alternative therapies including flower essences and crystal energies and additional homeopathics.

Dosing: (Give away from food by a half hour, if possible. Frequency of dosing is more important than getting the number of drops absolutely correct.)
Before birth: Dose a few drops daily orally to dam/queen from time of breeding. If there is a history of babies being lost, preventive dosing may be of help. Babies may also be more robust.
Newborns: As a preventative, give 2 drops daily orally for 2-3 weeks. If babies deteriorate, give 4 drops every thirty minutes to one hour divided into 8-24 doses in a 24 hour period. If you see a positive response, lower the dosing level. Variations in response are normal depending on the cause of fading symptoms. If you observe a tendency to puff air, reduce the dosage by one half.
Newborn premies or babies under 3 oz: Dilute 1 part remedy to 3 parts water. Give one drop of diluted formula by mouth per dose.
Trauma: Can be used to aid in digestion and to help with the trauma of birth, dewclaw removal or tail docking. It may be especially helpful for babies that are bottle fed or supplemented.
Dam/Queen: Has been known to improve milk. Dose ½ tsp 1-2 times per day by mouth. May also help with exhaustion during birth.
Storage: Store in a cool dry place away from light, strong odors and electronic appliances. Preferably refrigerated to extend shelf life.
Additional supportive measures are recommended including warming, oral or IV glucose, rehydration, under the guidance of a licensed health professional.
