Your Childbirth Kit + Guide to Homeopathy for Childbirth was originally developed for human moms. All of the remedies are safe and effective with dogs as well. We have used them for many years in our own nursery. This kit will help your mom and her babies enjoy a natural and safe pregnancy. Later, when the time comes for whelping (including c-section delivery) your kit will be invaluable. The high potency remedies included gently stimulate her body to dilate well, have strong effective contractions and provide long lasting, side effect-free pain relief during birth. Postpartum remedies allow her and her babies to recover quickly, settle smoothly into nursing and get down to the business of really getting acquainted with her babies. Get relief during premature and delayed labor situations and violent and rapid labor as well as posterior or backache labor.
“My mission is to provide you with expert guidance on how to use Homeopathy successfully.” Mary Aspinwall, Kit Designer and Homeopathy World Founder
Arnica: Number ONE trauma remedy. Encourages healing; controls bleeding, reduces swelling and likehood of pus formation. Reduces exhaustion, gives "second wind", particularly during long, slow, painful labours, where tiredness makes contractions weak/ineffectual (see Caluphyllum). Give routinely after birth to speed recovery, alleviate battered and bruised feeling. Reduces excessive bleeding where birth was traumatic/unusually long or short.
Bellis Perennis: Before birth can reliev sciatica (shooting nerve pain down leg) caused by position of babies. Reduces pain of over-stretched uterine ligaments. "Refreshes the parts Arnica cannot reach" Particulary useful after abdominal surgery (Caesarean) or Stuck Puppy Delivery.
Calendula: A wonderful remedy for speeding the healing process of cuts/lacerations/wounds. Can be alternated with other post-birth remedies (i.e. Arnica or Bellis Perennis).
Carbo Veg: This remedy has saved many lives. Symptoms at their most extreme are complete state of collapse due to oxygen starvation. Body cold, limp and pale, or blue. Use in connection with other efforts to revive respiration. This is one of the ingredients in our well reviewed Fading Puppy Formula.
Caulophyllum: Usually used in the first stage of labour to establish strong productive contractions. Do not use routinely.
Chamomilla: For unbearable pains, may be howling or screaming. Feels and looks over-heated.
Cimicifuga: Very similar to Caulophyllum. Cervix remains rigidly closed/fails to dilate properly. Dog feels better lying on left side.
Gelsemium: Next best choice if Caulophyllum fails to produce good strong contractions. Very useful if labour is slow and sluggish. You may observe her eyelids drooping, producing a dazed, stupefied appearance, or even body paralysed by exhaustion. Trembling, possibly shivers up and down the spine. Thirstless. Wants to be alone.
Hypericum: Excellent first aid remedy for damage to nerve-rich areas. Pains shoot along nerves with terrible intensity. Most useful after labour, particularly after caesareans, epidurals, stuck puppy deliveries.
Ipecac: Labour pains or bright red haemorrhaging with constant violent nausea.
Kali Carb: Useful if dam is extremely irritable, which may indicate nagging pain felt in back, buttocks and thighs. She may not want to be touched and may be better with warmth.
Kali Phos: Often recommended for exhaustion. Very helpful during labour if no other strong symptoms. Best taken between contractions. Can be used often throughout labour whenever energy is low. Useful for you as well!
Phytolacca: A post-labour remedy that has a deserved reputation for treating cracked nipples, blocked milk ducts and mastitis (breast inflammation).
Pulsatilla: Can be used to help breech babies to turn. Although breech puppies are not often an issue in delivery, you may see her pleading for help and very clingy.
Secale: Can be used to encourage a retained placenta to be pushed out naturally, if contractions are too weak.
Sepia: Pains severe. Think of Sepia if puppies are born close together, giving the body insufficient time between to recovery.
Staphisagria: Most often used after labour if dam seems angry or resentful because of medical procedures or interventions during labour. Consider if the birth involved intrusive or painful internal examinations, insertion of a catheter, caesarean deliveries, or Stuck Puppy delivery.
