According to Dogs
Naturally Magazine, “kennel cough” is exactly what it’s called: it is a cough
in your dog, much like a human cold. It can be caused by many different
viruses. It is almost always self limiting and can last anywhere from a day to
a couple of weeks. The virus is passed easily between dogs.
Coughing in dogs
can be difficult to detect if you’ve never heard it before: often, it sounds
like your dog is choking or has something in his throat. Normally, the cough is
dry and short in duration. Symptoms are normally limited to the upper
respiratory tract.
Homeopathy can be
very effective for supporting the respiratory system. Drosera is the primary
remedy and should be considered for a dry, hacking cough which may be worse
when the dog is laying down. However, we have often seen Bryonia support the
cough immediately especially when the patient is irritable, very thirsty and
unwilling to move. Thus we typically have both on hand for chronic or
acute coughing. Try one and if you see results, stop. If not, try
the other.
If coughing
becomes severe or for general respiratory support, use Young Living RC.
Tent the crate and cold-diffuse 4-6 drops in water until relief is
observed. RC can also be diluted approximately 4:1 with a high quality carrier oil such as V-6 and applied directly to the chest area.
Dosing of Bryonia
or Drosera: Administer a few drops in water, mouth, or on skin. Dose 1-2 times per day. It's more important to contact the dog with the
homeopathic than to ask them to swallow it. Watch for improvement.
Continue dosing until symptoms improve.
Human use: These individual products are labeled for human use and may be used appropriately on humans. It is especially useful in our home around the cold holiday seasons.
