Newborn Puppy Rescue Kit
Sometimes it's the littlest thing you will need that you can't find during an emergency. The items in the Newborn Puppy Rescue Kit will contain much of what is essential to save lives when newborns are struggling. Many of the items in this kit are those that we have to overnight express to breeders because they don't have some of the basics needed to support struggling babies. Unfortunately, sometimes they don't arrive in time, or the breeders cannot find an emergency room or veterinarian able to help during non-work hours when emergencies tend to occur.
Equipment needed to tube feed and administer fluids are provided in the Kit to help puppies that are struggling and/or fading. This is very helpful to those that do not yet have a sucking reflex or are not receiving adequate hydration through natural nursing. A bag of IV fluids or equivalent sterile saline is included along with syringes and instructions for administration. Lactated ringers is used for the treatment of dehydration and electrolyte depletion in animals, and can be administered using the included syringes under the skin (subcutaneously) in puppies. Sterile saline is used for hydration and is administered in the same way. We do not provide IV port, as this needs to be supervised by a veterinarian. We do provide syringes and needles for subcutaneous administration.
Newborns often suffer from diarrhea which can quickly cause dehydration and system collapse. Included in the Kit is “Pink Stuff”, a popular and effective treatment that can stop diarrhea quickly. Administration of electrolytes can help to restore electrolytes lost during bouts of diarrhea. "The Pink Stuff" Great for treating diarrhea in puppies and animals of all ages. Recommended dosages: For newborns, using 1/2 teaspoon, every 4 hours, given by swiping a small amount on the tongue every few minutes and allowing the puppy to swallow it all between swipes. Toys, 1 teaspoon every 4 hours. Larger breeds, 1-2 teaspoons every 4 hours Ingredients: Distilled water, guar gum, glycerin, kaolin, D-mannose, pectin and natural & artificial flavors.
Electrolytes and dextrose are often low in puppies who are struggling. Our kit contains a container of DogZymes Fading Puppy Support to help support normal hydration, and a source of quick energy. Providing a balance of electrolytes and amino acids are ideal for puppies with occasional diarrhea or while weaning, for moms during whelping and post-surgical recovery. Provided in powder, instructions for dosing are included.
Milk letdown
Slow milk letdown is a common problem with new dams.
Sometimes breeders do not even realize that puppies may be starving when they
appear to be nursing but there is little to no milk for them. Our Kit includes
a supply of Fenugreek, a “breeder’s secret” often used to aid in bringing milk into
those mothers whose milk is show, or in short supply. Fenugreek is often used
by human moms and is well-reviewed for this purpose.

Sterile Fluid Solution – 500 ml lactated ringers or sterile saline. Sterile IV fluids may be administered subcutaneously (under the skin at the withers) via included needle and syringe for puppies that are dehydrated. Discerning dehydration is typically done by gently pinching up the skin at the withers. If the skin is supple and returns to the body quickly is probably hydrated. Dosing: Newborns ½ tsp, Adult toys 1 tsp, Larger Breeds 1-2 tsp. Every 4 hours
