What is Oral Cal Plus Used For?

Breeder's Edge Oral Cal Plus Calcium supplement can be used by both whelping dogs and queening cats. Designed to support strong, normal contractions, this supplement will support the mother throughout labor, making it essential in every whelping kit.

Made in the United States using globally sourced ingredients, Oral Cal Plus gel delivers three calcium sources to improve dilation, contractions and mood. It also contains vitamin D3 to help support calcium absorption.

With MCTs and dextrose, your whelping dog or queening cat will stay more alert and energized.

Breeder's Edge® Oral Cal Plus™ Gel supports mom's productive labor by delivering 3 sources of calcium, along with magnesium and vitamin D3 to maintain strong, healthy contractions. Oral Cal Plus™ Gel contains dextrose for an extra boost of energy and MCTs for mental alertness. Vanilla flavor.

Manufacturer's Directions for Use:

Administer first dose orally after observing a one degree or more temperature drop. Active labor is estimated to begin within the next 12-24 hours. Administer subsequent doses every 4-6 hours until active labor begins, and after each newborn until labor is complete.

Cats, do not exceed 1mL per dose

Dogs up to 20 lbs, 2mL initial dose; 1mL per dose thereafter

Dogs over 20 lbs, 1mL per 10 lbs initial dose; 1 - 3mL per dose thereafter

Give an additional dose if labor stalls more than an hour.

If labor stalls for more than 2 hours, consult your veterinarian.

For intermittent or supplemental feeding only.

We have found that watching the clock is an "old world" way of thinking for breeders. It was customarily said in breeding books that vets should be consulted after a certain time had passed, resulting in many unnecessary C-Sections. In our fifty plus years of experience and mentoring, we have found that sometimes bitches settle down and rest for a period of time. This has come to be known as a "whelping pause". This is a totally natural and normal behavior. If your girl is not actively bearing down without producing a puppy for a long period, you may have a stuck puppy and need our Stuck Puppy Kit on hand to help get the puppy out. It contains equipment, photography and directions for a variety of ways to release puppies who are stuck during delivery.

If your girl is napping and allowing her puppies to nurse, she may be on a whelping pause, restoring her strength to deliver the next set of babies. Babies are delivered in random patterns. Having a highly absorbable source of calcium such as this product can save you an unnecessary trip to the vet, prevent eclampsia, and help move labor along. Giving a bowl of organic vanilla ice cream is also a great idea throughout labor, as most girls won't eat otherwise.
