Every mushroom in Immunity is grown on real wood in greenhouses. Most mushroom products are mycelium or myceliated grain. Mushrooms are expensive to grow on their natural substrate, so most mushroom manufacturers grow just the mycelium in bags of oats, sorghum or other grains. The whole mature mushroom (which is the source of beta-glucans and other active ingredients) is never used and the resulting "mushroom" product is basically a bag of grains with some mycelium.
The FDA doesn't permit mycelium products to say "mushroom" on the label because mycelium is lacking in key properties. But this still happens ... or the manufacturer might add a small amount of fruiting body so they can call the product mushroom.
